At a time when the legal issues involved in practice continue to impact upon all practitioners involved in health-care it was thought appropriate to address the problems that may face us all at some time.
Complications of manipulation are widely known, however the sequalae and potential legal implications have not been widely disseminated. We have brought together highly qualified speakers to address what to do when there is a complication arising from your treatment of a patient, what further management the patient will undergo after the accident, the probable outcome, and what your insurer and solicitor will require of you. In addition the related issues of Informed Consent, record keeping and ethics will be addressed.
As a finale to these discussions we have asked our solicitor Mr Gary Trollope, who has considerable experience in malpractice and negligence cases, to present a mock cross-examination of a practitioner, demonstrating the legal process in action.
Dr. Allan Terrett provides an overview of complications, and how to make practice safer. He also addresses malpractice – What is it? How frequent is it? How do you avoid it?
Dr. David de la Harpe reviews first aid, and solicitors address your duties of confidentiality, consent and standard of care, and discuss the role of insurance solicitors.
A Hypothetical Cross Examination demonstrates what they’ll ask, what you might say, and how it will be interpreted.
